Q. Why does Speech Typer have trouble recognizing my speech at times?
A. Speech Typer uses Apple's Speech Recognition Manager to recognize speech, and thus inherits the Manager's strengths and its weaknesses. One weakness is that the Manager has trouble recognizing words when spoken with a heavy accent or too quickly or slowly. Another is that it will only recognize entire phrases from a predefined list of phrases. If any of these phrases sounds like another (for example, "I have no clue" and "I have the flu"), the Manager will have troubles distinguishing them. The shorter a phrase, the more troubles the Manager has in identifying it's unique sound. You can best prevent these problems by making sure all your Listen Phrases in Speech Typer are as unique sounding as possible, and as long as practical.
Q. Can I use Speech Typer with non-English words?
A. Probably not, as the Speech Recognition Manager does not recognize foreign pronunciations. You might get lucky with a few words, but in general the current version of the Manager only recognizes American English. If Apple ever comes out with a recognition manager for another language, then you will probably have more luck with Speech Typer in that language.
Q. Why does the Speech Typer Engine not run on my machine?
A. Ensure that you have version 1.5 or later of the Speech Recognition Manager extension in your extension folder. Speech Typer will not work with earlier versions.
